“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free.” Every school kid in America learns that this is part of an inscription that is written on a tablet that is embedded i

The hot dogs will run out before they do. It seemed like a good idea at the time. You can say it definitely was a good idea at the time, but did the idea get corrupted over time? Let’s take a look at this. A good case is made that around the turn of the 19th century, when Europe was being Europe, and war and pestilence, famine and persecution roamed across borders, afflicting large segments of the populations of many countries, an invitation like the one that Emma Lazarus extended to the world on behalf of America was received as a Get Out of Jail card, and was cashed in by literally millions of poor, tired and huddled masses, even beyond Emma’s expectations, and America’s, for that matter. For a thousand years little kids born, far away, into the family of a blacksmith knew that they would be a blacksmith because there was no path to take that would lead them away from blacksmithing. Those millions of children were born, lived and died in that very narrow strata of society into which their fathers were born, and their fathers. And then came America, where the sun never set on people’s expectations, and they were willing to beat iron, plow fields, learn to be an engineer, design and build enormous steam engines that pulled long trains that thundered across the countr

From the East Coast to the West, they left the trains and built America into the most marvelous country in the history of the world. Irish, Italians, Brits, Asians, Germans, Hungarians, and on and on, they left dismal lives and came to a new life in a new place. America gave them their opportunities and they grabbed them. With hard work, perseverance and intelligence they built the country in directions never dreamed

A case could be made that the liberal thinking that drew these immigrants here stayed too long. It stayed and mutated into believing that it was America’s job to feed and house everyone who managed to get here, legally or not. It mutated into creating vast pools of money, taken from hard working people, and given to anyone who was able to show that he wasn’t able to earn a living, wasn’t able to get a job, wasn’t able to feed the large and growing family he was creating, couldn’t afford to provide them shelter. Failure brought in its hands an undeserved reward for the bunch of them. It mutated to the point where people came from other countries and went first to the place where the government was handing out free money, never stopping at an employment agency. A friend of mine once described why people don’t change their lives. He said that many people get into a rut. They stay in that rut, and eventually move into that rut, furnish it and live in it. It is this addiction to free government money that created 3rd, 4th or 5th generation welfare families, and it is the huge numbers of people taking from the country and giving nothing back that is one of the reasons we have become a second rate society, a country on the decline. In 1936, in the middle of the Great Depression, there were ? million people on welfare. In 1992 it was up to 13 million. In 1970, less than $2 Billion was spent on Food Stamps. We are now at $23 Billion, with 25 million people on Food Stamps. Since the early 1960’s, $3.5 TRILLION has been spent on anti-poverty programs, yet, in 1993, there were more poor people than in 1963. These are cold numbers, and buried in them are surely many stories of inescapable tragedy that landed good people in these statistics. Our powerful country became too much for some to handle, and it chewed them up a
Nike Shox R4 shoesnd spit them out, to lie face down on the streets that had no gold paving for them, exhausted and finished with it all. It has been said that a measure of the goodness and morality of a nation is how it treats its poorest citizens. In this area, America can surely be placed way up on the “goo

Nike Shox TL shoeswhere, in the long term, and we are creating a large population of professional failures at life. I believe that part of the fault can be placed at the feet of the Liberal/Democrat agenda, where being politically correct is more important than instilling self respect in people who are habituated to being parasites, sucking the lifeblood out of society. Could it be that liberals found to their delight that a legal way to buy votes was not to openly hand out cash, which is not legal, but to do it with a Food Stamp, or welfare check? We’ve depleted the oceans giving many millions of people in America free fish, and very few have been given a fishing rod…or want it.
